Translating NYC text messaging.
My sister is an actor.
She recently moved from Los Angeles to NYC.
I recently moved from NYC, but that was after a decade of residing in the concrete jungle.
I feel like I should help her. Well, maybe just with the nuances only New Yorkers can appreciate. Like, for example, text messaging. Residents of Gotham interpret texting differently than others. A few illustrations;

College sports collapse...
I have read it countless time. You may have too. It is communicated in a variety of ways, but the message boils down to this; when you’re on top and your actions lead you to believe you’re invincible, that’s when you should start to worry.
Unfortunately, university presidents and athletic directors evidently don’t do much reading, or thinking, for that matter as...

my little blog: Misfortune Cookies →
kaylaisms:
The other night’s circumstances required late night chinese delivery. This led to the inevitable end of meal “fortune” cookie. I broke into it, ready to believe whatever the little white strip of paper would tell me. I read it. Frowned. It was an advertisement for American Airlines. “What the…

Credit card companies - why?
Why do credit card companies send offers, yet require people to apply? That seems like a waste of money. I mean, if I were in charge of, say, VISA I’d be sure we only solicited people who we knew were worthy of the cards being offered. Otherwise, we’re just sending mail to people we don’t want as customers. And why the fuck would you do that?

Greeting Cards - son to mother
Why is it that the folks at Hallmark always assume that sons treat their mothers like shit? Every card is always like, “I know it seems like I don’t appreciate you”, or “Since I never tell you I love you”. I mean, what the hell? I know for a fact I’m not the only guy who treats his mother with respect and is courteous. C’mon, I’ve puke on my...
Maturity
We’re taught that maturity is a slow, methodic process. I have yet to experience that kind of maturity. I mature in spurts. Dramatic ones that happen just like that and then before I know it, the life I had been leading vanishes. New priorites, coupled by a new schedule and new outlook simply take over and everything that came before it in those places is gone. Ah-mazing.

my little blog: F Bomb →
I have decided to decrease the amount of ‘fucks’ that fly out of my mouth on a daily hourly basis. Really, it was not my decision. A few weeks ago over lunch my friend stopped me in the middle of a great fucking story that I was telling. “Hey, F bomb! Cool it,” she said. She informed me that 3…

Can we cheer now?
FIFA - the governing body of the World Cup - is censoring instant reply in lieu of the horrendous officiating permeating nearly every match played on a global stage. Great, censor the replays as if the millions of people watching the games can’t see when a goal is clearly a goal. Okay, so maybe a few people need replay for confirmation, but most know it as soon as they see it. ...

Bacon wrapped dates
Any restaurant that attempts to stuff a bacon-wrapped date with anything should be immediately burned to a crisp. Oh, the irony.

March Mad-...errr...Sadness
As we watched Kentucky’s uber-talented squad lose to WVU tonight, I was exchanging texts with a highly intelligent buddy. We both agreed that this year’s tournament marked the year that youth basketball’s ills finally surfaced on the court. Not the courtroom, where they’ve been for years, but on the court broadcasted into our respective living rooms.

Nude photos
There is such an incredible supply of naked photos marinating on the information superhighway, I’m surprised I haven’t come across more people I know personally. I believe many others share such sentiments.

Living in NYC...
A year in NYC is the equivalent to living any place else in the world for 5 years. Thus, as my 9-year anniversary approaches, I ponder how much longer Gotham remains home. Though a difficult environment to live in, Gotham has a way of silently trouncing just about every place else in everything. An ambiguous statement to some, but not to those who call Manhattan home.

Vince
Today, a client emailed just to notify me that Vince is on Gilt.com this week. I knew, but appreciated the reminder. In fact, I’m so giddy I think I need to rescue baby koalas and disrupt a sex slave cartel just to bring balance out my karma.
